Amid persistent bursts of deadly violence in Israel and the Palestinian territories, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is to visit the region to try to ease tensions.
During his trip Tuesday, Ban will visit both Israel and the Palestinian territories, the U.N. said.
A day earlier, the Secretary-General pleaded with Israeli and Palestinian people to pull back from confrontation and not give in to extremism.
"Let me be clear: violence will only undermine the legitimate Palestinian aspirations for statehood and the longing of Israelis for security," he said in a video message.
