Sword-wielding homeowner uses medieval combat skills and ninja sword to stop intruder

INDIANAPOLIS ? A ninja sword-wielding Indianapolis woman managed to subdue an intruder after he allegedly broke into her home earlier this week, according to an Indianapolis Star report.
Karen Dolley is no stranger to combat. The 43-year-old reportedly has two decades worth of medieval combat training. Experience that apparently proved incredibly helpful during an alleged home invasion on Thursday night.
Dolley was reportedly fast asleep when loud noises coming from her living room suddenly woke her up around midnight. The source, a home invader high on an as-yet-unidentified substance.
Dolley wasted no time protecting herself and her home and attacked the intruder, 30-year-old Jacob Wessel, reportedly punching him some 10 times.
"I didn't think I was getting good blows in but my knuckles are bruised today," Dolley told the Star. "Hitting someone like that, it isn't like the movies. You're expecting it to be louder and see people jerk around, but that's not how it happens in real life."
She eventually managed to corner Wessel in her bedroom, but unable to find the gun she kept in a bedroom drawer in heat of battle, Dolley went with the next best option, a single-edged Japanese ninja sword she just so happened to keep by her bed.
Knowing a thing or two about swords, Dolley managed to hold the suspect at sword-point until authorities arrived.
When police got to the scene Wessel was cuffed, booked and charged with residential felony, no doubt realizing all the while that he messed with the wrong woman.
"At the end of the day," said Dolley, "I'm glad to know that even if I wake up in the middle of the night, I'm not going down without a fight."
