Scientists Isolate Smell Of Death

A recent study purports to have isolated the organic compounds that make up the smell of human death.

Scientists may have discovered the chemical composition of the human smell of death. 


Research recently published in the journal PLOS One analyzed organic compounds released during the decomposition process from six human and 26 animal remains.


The researchers were able to identify some 452 compounds in total and eight of those compounds were determined to be distinct to humans and pigs.
Humans and pigs are similar in many ways, including body weight, biochemistry, and the ratio of fat to muscle.
