The mother of a 15-year-old Guatemalan migrant whose decomposed body was found a mile from the US-Mexico border last month begged him not to make the dangerous journey, according to an NBC News report.

Cipriana Juarez Diaz said her son left their chilly mountain village for the United States in hopes of earning money to treat her epilepsy.

His body was found near La Joya, Texas, but was not identified until this week when authorities used a number scribbled on his belt to identify him.

Gilberto Francisco Ramos Juarez's body was found in the Rio Grande Valley of southern Texas. Still around his neck was the white rosary his mother had given him upon his departure.

Three telephone numbers, including his brother's Chicago phone number, were found written inside his belt buckle.

An autopsy revealed no signs of trauma and authorities believe Juarez died of heat stroke.
