According to Business Insider, an 8-year-old child from Guatemala died at a hospital in Alamogordo, New Mexico on Christmas.
The child died after being apprehended by US Customs and Border Protection.
The child and his father were caught by a border patrol agent, who noticed the child was ill.
They were promptly transferred to the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo.
Although the child was initially diagnosed with a cold, hospital staff later discovered that he had a fever.
