Charleston County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a home invasion in Hollywood, South Carolina shot the homeowner instead on Thursday morning.

As two armed men forced their way into a South Carolina home by breaking one of the windows, the armed homeowner, Brian Heyward, hid in his mobile home’s laundry room and spoke with 911 dispatchers.

Charleston County sheriff’s deputies responding to the distress call saw two men on bicycles fleeing towards the backyard. As the deputies followed the men into the backyard, the two deputies saw Heyward standing near the back door holding a gun.

When Heyward ignored their order to put down his gun one of the deputies shot him in the neck.

Heyward was taken to a hospital while the sheriff’s office had captured one of the two real home invaders by Thursday afternoon.
