KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — On August 5, a homeowner in Kansas City, Missouri got the best of a man breaking into his house in the middle of the night.

Around 2 a.m. on August 5, a man by the name of Lawrence woke up to the sound of someone creeping around his property. The intruder was actually an acquaintance of his, Monte Hill, who was entering the residence through a sliding glass door downstairs.

The homeowner, Lawrence, left his bed to investigate. When he got to the sliding door, Monte had entered, and was now pointing a handgun at him. A scuffle ensued between the two. Lawrence managed to wrestle the gun out of Monte’s hand, and fired a shot into his stomach.

Within seconds, the intruder was writhing on the ground in pain. Over the next few minutes, Monte Hill used all his remaining strength to crawl out of the house. He got as far as the front yard before police showed up.

Hill told police he broke into the house to retrieve a gun that had been stolen from him. The two had reportedly been friends since high school. After being taken to a local hospital, he was listed in critical condition.

Prosecutors have asked for a $75,000 bond.
