Caught on video: Man randomly stabs pedestrians on busy street in Jinjiang, China

A knife-wielding man stabbed pedestrians seemingly at random, injuring nine people on a busy street in China’s southeastern city of Jinjiang on Wednesday night.

One of the victims, a homeless man who was reportedly stabbed five or six times, was seriously injured and was sent to the hospital. Six other victims who received less serious injuries were given first-aid and then questioned by the police. Two victims bandaged their wounds themselves after they left the scene.

The suspect was subdued by police in Jinjiang’s Qingyang District with help from three bystanders. The bystanders were rewarded $320 each for their bravery.

Police said the suspect is from China’s province of Hebei and is believed to be mentally ill.
