Man intentionally drives car onto busy train station plaza, hitting dozens of pedestrians in Nagoya

An unemployed man in his 30s faces serious charges after driving his car onto a pedestrian plaza adjacent to Nagoya Station, leaving a dozen pedestrians injured on Sunday afternoon.

The incident started at an intersection less than 200 metres from the station. The crazy driver made an illegal left turn and drove onto the pedestrian only station square, hitting several pedestrians and continued moving dozens of meters. The reckless driver only stopped because he ran into a tree.

A 24-year-old pedestrian is said to have suffered a broken back. Other pedestrians ranging from teens to middle-aged, escaped with minor injuries. According to witness reports, the man went insane, letting out a strange noise and getting out of the car. He was arrested immediately at the scene and charged with attempted murder, amongst other offenses.The man admitted to the crime during questioning.
