Honduras: High School Student Movement Picks Up Steam

In Honduras, protests by high school students demanding better quality education and the cancellation of the decision to extend the school day until 7pm -a major concern given crime and security considerations- have resurfaced and intensified. Protests erupted last month, but subsided following the killing of four student leaders and the Easter Week vacations. Renewed protests are now being planned for next week, with the original demands expanded to include calls for an investigation into the deaths of the four student leaders and the resignation of Education Minister Marlon Escoto.
