Guatemalan dictator manages to avoid trial again

The defense team of Guatemalan ex-dictator Jose Efrain Rios Montt has once again managed to get him off the hook and postpone his genocide trial until a new venue and an impartial judge are found to re-try him. The judge in charge of the case, Janeth Valdez, recused herself when Rios' defense team accused her of having an opinion on his culpability as expressed in her master's degree thesis over a decade ago. The hearing was thus suspended and a new venue will be appointed to address the case against Rios Montt for his role in the genocide of close to 2,000 indigenous people in his country. teleSUR
