Chechen violence leaves 20 dead and close to 30 injured

Russian authorities have updated the death toll after gunmen attacked a police post post in the Chechen capital Grozny, and then stormed another building. Russian officials said ten officers were killed as well as ten of the attackers in Thursday's violence, which is some of the bloodiest fighting in Chechnya in months. The situation erupted a few hours before President Vladimir Putin said in a speech in Moscow he would defend Russia against "attempts to dismember it." teleSUR
