Egypt bomb blast leaves several dead and scores injured
  • 10 years ago
At least 14 people have been killed and 150 wounded in a huge explosion at a security building in the northern Egyptian town of Mansoura.

The cause of the blast is unconfirmed but several reports say it was a car bomb attack.

The force of the explosion led to a partial collapse of the building which may have accounted for the high number of injuries.

The head of the local security directorate is said to among the wounded.

Egypt’s interim Prime Minister Hazem al Beblawi has called it a terrorist incident and said the perpetrators will not go unpunished.

Attacks on soldiers and policemen have sharply risen in Egypt since the army ousted elected Islamist President Mohamed Mursi in July.

No one has claimed responsibility but, within hours of the explosion, Beblawi announced that the Muslim Brotherhood would now be considered a terrorist organisation.
