Al Shabaab bombs two convoys, killing at least 12

At least 12 civilians are killed when al Shabaab militants launch twin attacks against African peacekeepers and government vehicles Monday.
It's the first major attack since al Shabaab's vowed to avenge the killing of its leader by U.S. airstrikes last week.
(SOUNDBITE) (Somali) GOVERNOR OF LOWER SHABELLE REGION, ABDIKADIR MOHAMED SIDII, SAYING:
"More than 12 civilians have been killed. Twenty-eight people were also wounded by the suicide attackers."
Al Shabaab, which wants to impose its strict version of Islam on Somalia, appointed a new leader over the weekend.
