Calling for the interim President to step down, angry crowds took to the streets of the capital of the Central African Republic for a second day of violent protests on Friday. Three people were killed in the demonstrations.
Two people were shot dead by Burundian peacekeepers and died instantly a third protestor died later in hospital. A spokesman for the African Union mission said the troops opened fire after being shot at by a crowd who attacked their base. Locals reject that account and are calling for the peacekeepers to leave.
In an address to the nation interim President Catherine Samba Panza promised that those responsible for an attack Wednesday's attack on a church in the city would not go unpunished but she also lashed out at protestors who she said were trying to destabilise the government.
Meanwhile, in north eastern Nigeria, a local village leader and two policemen are killed by gunmen thought to be from Boko Haram. The Emir of Gwoza died after his convoy came under fire. He and other local leaders were travelling to a funeral. At first it was thought that the Emir's had been kidnapped as they fled into the bush but Borno state government has now confirmed the death adding that it believed the gunmen to be from Boko Haram.Since April 14th when over 200 schoolgirls were abducted, one news agency says 500 people have been killed in the north east of the country.
And finally Africa News turns to a sweeter story from Ivory Coast. It hosts Africa's first international chocolate competition but the presure on the home team proved too much as they took second place to Tunisia, ahead of Burkina Faso who came third.
