Ukrainian officials say Kiev has agreed to a ceasefire with pro-Russian separatists.

The agreement reached in Minsk, came on a day that saw Ukrainian forces fighting on two fronts.

Soldiers, along with volunteer fighters, say they've reclaimed territory from rebels near Mariupol.

The strategic port city sits between Russia and Crimea.

While in Donetsk, locals assess the damage after a night of shelling.

This youth center was hit. A nearby mosque and other buildings also came under fire.

The ceasefire, which went into effect at 1500GMT, is the first step toward ending the conflict in Eastern Ukraine -- and what has become the worst standoff between Moscow and the West since the Cold War.
