After the deadliest single day of the current Israeli operation in Gaza there's no sign of any let-up in the bombardment.

Israeli forces were again shelling the area on Monday despite the United Nations Security Council called for a ceasefire.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) EUGENE GASANA, RWANDAN AMBASSADOR TO THE U.N, SAYING:

"The members of the Security Council expressed serious concern about the growing number of casualties. The members of the Security Council called for an immediate cessation of hostilities based on the return to the November 2012 ceasefire agreement."

The U.N Security Council met after about 100 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers were killed on Sunday.

The bloodshed's been condemned by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon who's in the Middle East to help broker a ceasefire.
