Riot police fire tear gas, detain dozens of protesters in Istanbul

Protesters chant anti-government slogans on the streets of Istanbul.
They want to enter Taksim Square and Gezi Park to honor the six people who died one year ago in Turkey's biggest anti-government protest in decades.
But Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan had warned the public to stay away.

"If you attempt to go there, I am sorry but our security forces have clear orders. They will do whatever is necessary from A to Z. You will not be able to go to Taksim square as you did last summer during the Gezi incidents."
Many didn't listen.
Police fired tear gas and water cannons to keep the crowds from reaching the square.
Dozens of protesters were detained.
Last year, police forcefully evicted activists from Gezi Park as they peacefully protested government plans to build a shopping mall.
