Police detain dozens of Istanbul protesters

Police make dozens of arrests in Istanbul in the early hours of Wednesday morning following violent clashes.
No official numbers have been released on how many people were detained or injured overnight.
But protests have continued despite an apology on Tuesday from Turkey's deputy prime minister for "excessive violence" by police.
With Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan out of the country, some of the organizers of the original protest met his deputy Bulent Arinc for talks on Wednesday.
Demonstrators camped out in Istanbul's Gezi Park, however, remained defiant.
(SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) GEZI PARK PROTESTER GOKCE ISERI SAYING:
"We are waiting for a decision. We want a total withdrawal of the police. It is enough, really bad things are happening and there is no need for them."
Broader protests against what many see as Erdogan's increasingly authoritarian style of government have been staged throughout Turkey.
