Inexpensive Steak Cuts: Tri-Tip

The tri-tip is a cut of triangular muscle also found in the bottom sirloin portion of the animal. It isn't the largest muscle on the animal, and while not found in abundance at the grocery store, its a very inexpensive cut and a great find. With the tri-tip you get a great, full flavor, and much lower fat content than some of the more popular beef cuts. This cut is most commonly found in restaurants in California where it is popular among chefs. If you want to prepare the tri-tip, consider roasting it with a rub or slow-cooking it on the barbecue for maximum flavor.
