Former NBA basketball star Dennis Rodman has defended his trip to North Korea to celebrate the birthday of the country’s leader Kim Jong-un.

Rodman is leading an all-star basketball team to play an exhibition match against a North Korean line up.

The exact age and birth date of Kim Jong-un is unknown.

Rodman reiterated his affection for the leader:

“This is for his birthday, this is his gift. This is his gift, from me, from me, from the world. I love the guy, the guy is my friend, for ever and ever:”

Rodman has been criticised in the US for his connections with Pyongyang.

The basketball player has been asked several times if he would raise the issue of Kenneth Bae.

The Korean-American is currently serving a 15 year jail sentence for sedition.
