Only Half of Poll Participants Say Christmas Is a Religious Holiday

Among the respondents to a recent Pew Research Center Poll, only half said they see Christmas as a religious holiday.
Among the respondents to a recent Pew Research Center Poll, only half said they see Christmas as a religious holiday.
That doesn’t mean many of those in the remaining half don’t believe in Jesus, the virgin birth, or even God, it’s just that for them, secular celebrations define the day more than religious services.
In fact, among the 2000 people polled, close to three-quarters of them believe the Biblical account of the events that transpired that night in the manger.
Included in that group are 32 percent of the people who said they have no religious affiliations.
When asked if they plan to attend Christmas services, a little over fifty percent of the total number of people questioned said yes.
Socializing with family and friends is on 86 percent of people’s holiday to-do lists.
Just over 30 percent said their festivities will be primarily cultural.
Even among those with no religious ties to Christmas, Santa and presents play a big part of the day for 1 in 3 people. Many of jolly, red-suited man’s fans admitted that they don’t even have children.
