Costa Concordia captain Schettino 'jumped' into lifeboat

A trainee naval officer has told an Italian court that the captain of the Costa Concordia “jumped” into a lifeboat as the liner was sinking.

His evidence appears to support the prosecution’s accusation that Francesco Schettino abandoned his ship while passengers were on board.

The defence has always argued he slipped. 32 people died in the disaster on January 13, 2012.
