Villagers stranded in flood waters

Soldiers in southern China rescued villagers from floodwaters caused by the recent Typhoon Trami Saturday (August 24) state media reported.

State broadcaster CCTV showed footage of local soldiers bringing several villagers stranded by floodwaters to safety in Yongzhou City of southern Hunan province.

Trami made landfall in the coastal areas of southern China on Thursday (August 22) morning, bringing heavy rains to surrounding provinces.

According to the provincial meteorological bureau, rains in Hunan province will continue through Sunday (August 25) evening.

State-run news agency Xinhua said that Trami is the twelfth typhoon to hit China this year.
