The Last of the Mohicans is a 1936 American historical western adventure film directed by George B. Seitz and starring Randolph Scott, Binnie Barnes and Henry Wilcoxon.
Plot: The story is set in the British province of New York during the French and Indian War. After being abducted by Magua (Bruce Cabot), the Native American scout sent to escort them to Fort William Henry, sisters Cora (Heather Angel) and Alice Munro (Binnie Barnes) are rescued by two Mohicans. Uncas (Philip Reed) and his father, Chingachgook (Robert Barrat) and their companion, Hawkeye (Randolph Scott). Cora falls for Uncas, and Alice for Hawkeye, and the two men struggle to protect their newfound lady loves in the midst of escalating violence during the French and Indian War.
FYI: On 5/1/1936 "The Triplicate" reported that a camera crew showed up in Crescent City and Smith River to undertake the preparations for filming an adaption of "The Last of the Mohicans" using Yurok, Hoopa and Tolowa extras. Tolowa's and mixed Tolowa's hired on as extras included Clifford Winton, Harry Bob, Fred Moorehead, William White, Andrew Whipple, Chester Scott, Johnny Frank, Chester James, Robert Spott, Lawrence Spott, Edward Spott and Jack James. They were paid $5.00 a day. The federal government arranged the pay scale for the reservation Indians who had acted as extras.
