A diamond winner accidentally swallows a 1-carat stone.

An 80-year-old female swallowed a 1-carat diamond worth $5,000 while attending a woman’s club event in Tampa.

The organization was raising money for a children’s charity, so a local company decided to donate the diamond along with 400 flutes of Champagne that held cubic zirconium replicated jewels in the glasses.

The idea behind the kind gesture was that one of the $20 glasses would have the real diamond in it and the holder of that flute would get to keep the stone. The elderly lady, Miriam states “I only bought two glasses, and that was the one. The small sip I took, I swallowed it, and I thought, Oh well, they will find it at the end.”

Miriam went to the hospital for an X-ray, but the jewel could not be found. However, the following day she had a colonoscopy scheduled, and, after some looking, medical staff found the diamond in her large intestine and removed it.

Last year, a Utah woman, Angela Hardman was charged with stealing a diamond engagement ring, valued at over $4,000 from a local Macy's store. She reportedly asked an employee to try the jewelry piece on, but quickly swallowed it and replaced it with a fake.
