Clashes after prayers in the West Bank

STORY: Palestinians clashed with Israeli security forces on Friday following prayers that were held in a field of olive trees near the village of Silwad.

The prayers had been held in the field as an act of solidarity for a Palestinian man who was attacked by Israeli settlers from the near by town of Ofra on Thursday.

The man who is recovering in hospital was attacked as he worked alone on a property he was building.

As the Palestinian men walked away after praying, youths began to throw stones at the Israeli soldiers who were monitoring the prayer gathering.

The soldiers responded with several rounds of tear gas as the Palestinian youths blocked the road with large boulders to stop the army jeeps from getting near them.

Near the West Bank town Hebron on Friday, a small group of Palestinians marched to demand the release of a man from Israeli detention.
