Thousands rally for immigration reform

Supporters of immigration reform gather in Washington calling for change.

Thousands rallied on Wednesday (April 10) to back legislation that could put millions on the path to citizenship.

It came as lawmakers put the final touches to a bill for reform.

SOUNDBITE: (English) U.S. DEMOCRATIC SENATOR FOR NEW JERSEY BOB MENENDEZ SAYING:

"And to stand with my colleagues in the House of Representatives in Congress to say that we will make comprehensive immigration reform a reality this year."

Legislation in the Senate could boost border security and include a way for immigrants to earn citizenship.

Many here say they deserve legal recognition.

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) DIANA BOTERO OF COLOMBIA SAYING:

"We are not bloodsuckers. We contribute a lot more than many American citizens who do have documents."

An immigration bill could end deportation fears for around 11 million people who live illegally in the United States.
