Volunteerism Among Corporate Employees Grows in Companies Overseas and At Home - CSR Minute for January 18, 2013

In India, increased volunteerism is being driven by the new Companies Bill that mandates organizations spend 2 percent of their net profits on social welfare. Volunteerism is also a high priority for a younger generation workforce that seeks to support causes bringing about positive social change. More than 65 percent of Dell’s employees in India are now engaged in volunteer activities. In 2011 they contributed 52,000 volunteer hours, and those numbers doubled in 2012. Companies like Maruti have made volunteering an integral part of their new employees induction program. The company also runs the e-Parivartan social services program, launched at the request of its young employees. Starting with 40 employees, that program has grown to 2,200 change agents, who have contributed over 20,000 volunteer hours in the last four years.
