Town in India to Use Drums for Fighting Public Urination

Indian villages use volunteers to reprimand those who urinate or defecate in public.

Public urination is a common problem in rural parts of many developing countries.

34 villages in India have established volunteers, armed with whistles and drums, who are ready and eager to bust and possibly humiliate those who choose to relieve themselves in public.

The volunteers will reportedly “shout, beat drums or blow a whistle” to shame the urinating or defecating human. There may be a fine involved if a person commits multiple offenses.

Roughly half of India’s population does not possess a toilet in their homes so officials are hoping the new attempt will promote those without bathrooms to build one and change their one-with-nature habits.

A district council official simply states “We want people to not defecate in the open”.

In another bizarre report from this year, a Swedish province proposed a law for men to sit down while urinating.

The Left Party wanted to ensure males were in the sitting position while using the county council's restrooms. One reason for the crazy law is cleanliness, as no one wants to step into a puddle of "you know what".
