Suicide blast kills police chief in Pakistan's Peshawar

This is the site of a deadly blast in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar.

Early on Wednesday a suicide bomber blew himself up, killing at least three people, including one senior officer.

The senior police investigator - who died along with his body guards - was apparently the attacker's intended target.

Scores of others were wounded in the blast.

According to local media networks, the Taliban later claimed responsibility for the attack.

Pakistan's Taliban, who are close to al Qaeda, are blamed for many of the suicide bombings across Pakistan.

Peshawar is an old trading city on the main route into nearby Afghanistan, but has been plagued by militant attacks in recent years.
