At least one dead in train crash

A passenger train collided with a truck and derailed at Dandenong, in the south-east of Melbourne, Australia, on Saturday (November 3) killing at least one person and injuring at least eight others.

Local media reported the train operator was trapped in the cabin for over an hour before he was cut free. His condition is said to be serious.

The injured people have been taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Police have not given any details as to what caused the accident and an investigation is underway, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

All train services on the line have been suspended.
