Train crash leaves at least 40 dead in India

A speeding passenger train rammed into a stationary freight train in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state on Monday (May 26) killing at least 40 people and injuring dozens, eyewitnesses said.
The accident took place as the New Delhi-Gorakhpur Gorakhdham Express crashed into a cargo train which was stationed at Chureb Railway Station in the Basti district of the province.
Railway authorities said rescue and medical teams were immediately rushed to the location to provide first-aid to the injured.
Six cars from the express train derailed in the accident.
There has been a recent increase in the number of train accidents in the country.
Indian Railways is a vital national transportation grid for the country's 1.2 billion people, cramming 18 million people a day on to aging trains.
