Indonesia's Mount Lokon volcano on Sulawesi island erupts on Sunday spewing hot ash into the air.

The volcano in the eastern part of Indonesia has erupted 41 times since September 1.

The eruption on Sunday is the largest so far.

Local Antara news agency said the government has set a safety radius of 2.5 kilometres from the crater. The agency also said Lokon is now the most active volcano in Indonesia.

Some residents were preparing to evacuate due to breathing difficulties, but many chose to stay at home.

Indonesia sits astride the geologically active Pacific "ring of fire". It has more than 100 active volcanoes.
