Barra Da Tijucca, Rio De Janeiro/Brazil (Friday, May 20, 2011) -- Brazilian surfer Adriano de Souza (BRA), 24, has overtaken American Kelly Slater (Fl, USA) to lead the world ratings after winning the third event on the 2011 ASP Men's Tour, the Billabong Rio Pro which was completed in two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves at Barra Da Tijuca in Brazil today.

Twenty four year-old de Souza defeated Australian Taj Burrow (AUS), 32, in the final as thousands of parochial fans cheered him on. The win earned de Souza US$100,000 and the all-important lead in the race for the 2011 ASP world title.
Burrow's runner-up finish was the Australian's second from three events and it moves him to fourth in the ratings behind Slater who was eliminated yesterday in Round 3.
Burrow was in form heading into the final day, posting some of the highest scores of the tournament, but despite opening his account against de Souza with a 7-point ride he was unable to find a second score to halt the local's momentum.
Finishing equal third today were Jeremy Flores (FRA), 23, and Australin Bede Durbidge (Gold Coast, AUS).

Flores returned to form after a severe knee-injury forced him to withdraw from the season opening event on the Gold Coast. The young Frenchman was a standout throughout the entirety of Billabong Rio Pro competition and went on to eliminate current ASP World Title No. 2 Joel Parkinson (AUS), 30, before losing to Burrow in the semi-finals.
Flores' equal 3rd place finish puts him at No. 11 on the men's ASP World Title Series.
Durbidge (AUS), 28, quietly advanced through the early rounds of Billabong Rio Pro competition before taking both his Round 5 and Quarterfinals heats with some of the day's top scores, but the Australian powerhouse was unable to find the scores needed to surpass De Souza in their close Semifinals heat.
The Billabong Rio Pro has a waiting period running until May 22 and every heat can be viewed LIVE via the official website; www.billabongpro.com
