Police release Sikh temple shooting video

Police released this dash cam video on Monday showing the scene of an August 5 shooting at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin that left seven people dead, including the gunman.

The video shows Lieutenant Brian Murphy running toward the gunman, Wade Michael Page, and then getting shot in the throat.

The suspect then ran over to Lieutenant Murphy, who officials say was shot a total of 15 times.

Murphy survived the attack.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney says the video shows that officers acted properly and with courage.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MILWAUKEE COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY JOHN CHISHOLM SAYING:

"The videos, from my perspective, are compelling evidence showing that Lieutenant Murphy and Officer Lenda were both justified and privileged in their use of force when they confronted Mr. Page at the Sikh Temple. Beyond that, and further, their courageous and timely actions were necessary to prevent further tragedy."

Wade Michael Page was a former army serviceman with ties to white supremacy and neo-Nazi movements.
