Aid rushed to Philippine flood victims

Parts of Manila sit submerged, as flood water forces residents to leave their homes in search of shelter.

Eleven days of monsoon rains, fuelled by a typhoon and tropical storm, have swamped 60 percent of the Philippine capital.

Homes are inundated and major roads turned to rivers.

The death toll has risen to at least 64.

Food, water and clothes are being distributed to the 850,000 people marooned inside flooded homes, or at temporary shelters.

Indoor basketball courts and schools are packed with people seeking refuge.

Forecasters say the monsoon rains have been the heaviest in three years.

The severe weather is expected to ease from Thursday (August 9).
