Four amateur divers have died after becoming stranded as they explored an underwater spot known as the 'Blood Cave' near Cape Palinuru in southern Italy.

Three of the victims are Italian - two men and one woman, including the group leader, whilst the fourth is a Greek man.

The area is a world heritage site popular with tourists and has 35 caves.
