U.S. condemns bloodshed in Iraq

A day of bloodshed across Iraq.
More than 20 bombs bit cities and towns across the country Thursday killing at least 36 people and wounding close to 150 others.
In Baquaba some 40 miles north of Baghdad one person was killed and six others wounded after a car bomb targeted a police officers home.
No one is claiming responsibility for the attacks.
US State Department spokesman Mark Toner.
(SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) US STATE DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN MARK TONER, SAYING:
"We strongly condemn today's attacks targeting of innocent civilians is unacceptable cowardly and we obviously offer our condolences to the victims."
While Iraq is less violent than at the height of sectarian strife in 2006 and 2007, bombings still occur on a daily basis.
A political crisis erupted in Iraq in December when the Shi'ite-led government tried to remove a Sunni Deputy Prime Minister and sought an arrest warrant for a Sunni Vice President.
Critics view the moves as an attempt by the Shi'ite premier to consolidate power, and many Sunnis fear he is trying to sideline them from government.
