Amateur video shows Homs shelling
Amateur video obtained from a social media website appears to show shelling in Syria's besieged city of Homs on Sunday.

The large explosions seen here are purportedly in the al-Nazaheen neighbourhood.

Other amateur footage which emerged on Sunday appears to show hundreds of people rallying in the streets of Deraa, chanting slogans in support of the embattled cities of Homs, Idlib and Hama.

Reuters cannot independently verify the content of these videos.

The latest attacks on Homs come as U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan holds blunt talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, but appears to be making little headway, as Assad continues to blame the bloodshed on "terrorists".

Annan described the talks as "candid and comprehensive", but Assad said no political dialogue is possible while there are "armed terrorist groups operating and spreading chaos and instability".

The U.N. claims nearly 8,000 people have been killed in Syria by security forces since a popular uprising began a year ago.

But Bashar al-Assad claims "terrorists" have killed thousands of security personnel.
