A wealthy businessman said he had incriminating evidence against former Chongqing police chief Wang Lijun. Now, the businessman has been detained by Chongqing officials in Beijing. Wang Lijun triggered a political scandal for his former boss Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai last month by trying to seek asylum at a US consulate. Now Bo has reportedly missed an important meeting with senior Communist Party officials.

The political scandal embroiling Chongqing's top communist officials continues to deepen, with Chongqing police detaining a wealthy businessman who claims to have information on former police chief Wang Lijun.

Zhang Mingyu, a member of Chongqing's People's Congress, wrote on his Weibo micro-blog on Wednesday, that four Chongqing officials were at his apartment in Beijing.

The following day Zhang texted one of his lawyers to say he was back in Chongqing because of "a family emergency," according to the Wall Street Journal.

Zhang had earlier blogged about the suicide of a Chongqing official on Saturday who had links to the local mafia.

He also indicated that he would publish information about Wang Lijun and his links to organized crime.

Wang triggered a political storm after reportedly seeking asylum at the U.S. Consulate in early February, following a falling out with his former boss Bo Xilai, Chongqing's Communist party chief.

This is widely believed to have impeded Bo Xilai's chances of entering the Communist Party's top ruling body later this year.

Both Bo Xilai and Wang Lijun are known for spearheading a crime-fighting campaign in Chongqing that was later reported to be dogged with corruption and illegality.

Now, Zhang's detention is fuelling further speculation.
