Nokia pulls out: Workers in Romania lose their jobs | Made in Germany
  • 12 years ago
In 2008, mobile-phone giant Nokia opened a factory in the Romanian city of Cluj. People there expected other manufacturers to set up shop, too. They had high hopes for a more prosperous future. But now Nokia has closed its factory, and 2,200 people have lost their jobs. Finnish telecom company Nokia was late to develop appealing smartphones and has been losing market share - and its status as an innovator. The mood in Cluj is gloomy. The city hopes other companies might still invest there.
