Police use tear gas in clashes with protesters - opposed to austerity measures - on the anniversary of a student march.
The annual event - commemorates a 1973 student uprising against the ruling dictatorship -but has become a rallying day for anti-government groups.
More than 50, 000 students, citizen groups and left-wing activists marched to the U.S. embassy in Athens - to send a message to the government - in its second day in office.

"We now have a worse junta, because things were more clear then. Today ,we have an economic dictatorship, and we are suffering. And not just us. Slowly, all of Europe is going to be suffering from it. So the message is, we must resist this dictatorship."
Opinion polls said three in four Greeks back the new - Prime Minister Lucas Papademos - tasked with pushing through more cuts.
But, with Greece in fiancial crisis and the euro zone demanding more reforms - the challenge remains keeping this support.
