Twin typhoons take their toll in Philippines

Many of these people haven't seen dry land for nearly a week.
Here in the northern Philippines, Typhoons Nesat and Nalgae caused severe flooding, and the floodwaters are only now beginning to recede.
Low-lying villages have been acting as basins, filled by water that burst through nearby dykes - forcing many people into temporary shelters.
One woman had to fight through eight feet of water just to get food for her family.
(SOUNDBITE) (Filipino) RESIDENT CONCHA SANTOS, SAYING:
"The reason they couldn't send us relief goods was because the floods were so high. That's why we had to go down to the town centre in Hagonoy to get the relief supplies ourselves. But sometimes we couldn't get anything because so many people were asking for help."
Clean water is also in high demand; residents wait in line to fill buckets from the only water truck around.
Typhoons Nesat and Nalgae killed 59 people and displaced more than 400,000.
An average of 20 typhoons hit the Philippines each year.
