CSR Minute: J.C. Penney Launches Pennies from Heaven Program

JC Penney has announced “Pennies from Heaven,” a campaign that asks customers to round up their change to the nearest dollar and send the money to afterschool programs. J.C. Penney’s Afterschool Program benefits The Boys and Girls Club of America, the YMCA, the United Way, F.I.R.S.T.—a science and technology nonprofit—and the 4-H. The campaign’s goal is to raise $1 million dollars—100 million pennies.

The United Nations’ maritime agency has adopted the first mandatory greenhouse gas reduction rules for the shipping industry. The agreement by 55 of the world’s largest shipping nations also creates the first-ever mandatory, global GHG reduction regime for any international industry. The regulations are expected to cut emissions by 45 to 50 millions tons a year by 2020.
