Do you need CO2 in a dirt substrate planted tank?

I feel there is more then enough CO2 when you first dirt a tank. The gasses escape from the substrate, mainly co2, plants will grow great with this. Excess co2 could A. kill your fish, B. Cause an algae problem. There are exceptions to this, but I don't wanna confuse anyone..
