Telstra Drug Aware Pro, Day 3, Kelly Slater

Wednesday April 6th Margaret River WA - Ten time World Surfing champion Kelly Slater survived a nerve wracking opening round heat win at the Telstra Drug Aware Pro in Margaret River today.
Slater had not surfed Margaret River since 1993 as a 21 year old and in today’s heat he appeared to spend a lot of time trying to re familiarize himself with the break.
25 minutes into the 30 minute heat Slater was in 3rd place staring at elimination behind 20 year old New Zealand surfer Billy Stairmand when he finally found a medium sized wave, weaved some Slater magic to post a 6.5 score take the win by just 0.36 of a point.
