And in southern Thailand... almost a thousand tourists have been evacuated from a resort island that has been hit hard by floods and mudslides. The navy has been brought in to bring people out... and authorities say at least 16 people have died.

Since Saturday, many tourists and local people have been stranded at several well-known tourist destinations in southern Thailand, such as Koh Tao and Koh Samui.

According to a navy official, nearly 1,000 tourists have been evacuated as of Thursday.

Authorities say the floods and mudslides in southern Thailand have killed up to 16 people.

A helicopter from the Royal Chakri Naruebet was sent to airlift tourists out of the storm-hit area.

The helicopter landed amid strong winds and heavy rain on Wednesday evening.

Reports on Thursday said the weather was now clearing up as ferries started to resume services again in some areas.

Local officials have warned of the possibility of more mudslides.
