Strictly Come Dancing stars prepare to dance

Fiery politician Ann Widdecombe is leading the line-up of unlikely celebrities hoping to dance their way to victory in the BBC's ballroom reality TV show.

She joins showbiz legends like Felicity Kendal and Destiny Child's Michelle Williams, and sporting heroes Peter Shilton and Gavin Henson, who will each be paired with a professional dancer to get them in shape to perform on live television.

Widdecombe is already being compared to political journalist John Sergeant, who left the show in 2008 after the public refused to vote him off, despite his lack of dancing talent.

Other celebrity hopefuls strapping on their dancing shoes are soap stars Scott Maslen, Kara Tointon and Tina O'Brien, actress Patsy Kensit, legendary magician Paul Daniels, comedian and psychologist Pamela Stephenson, DJ Goldie, East is East actor Jimi Mistry, and TV presenter Matt Baker.

The ballroom bonanza begins on Saturday night.
