Curfew Imposed Once More in Indian Kashmir

A curfew is back in effect in Srinagar, the summer capital of India's northern Jammu and Kashmir state.

The city is observing a shutdown in response to the ongoing anti-India rallies called by the hard-line separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Security forces were deployed in large number as the authorities re-imposed restrictions on people's movement in some parts of Srinagar.

Streets were deserted, shops remained closed and police patrolled the city.

Curfews have been imposed and relaxed since violent protests first erupted in late June.

On Sunday, the death of a young protester shot by police several days earlier is thought likely to trigger fresh clashes.
